The beginning of the year brings New Year’s resolutions...one of the most popular being losing weight/eating healthier. Freshdiet mailed out a New Year’s self-mailer promoting their service. They are a food service delivery program meant for busy people who don’t have time or like to cook. They claim the food is fresh and healthy.

Format

This self-mailer was mailed 5.5” x 8” and was 8” x 21.75” overall.

Design

The piece included lots of mouth-watering photos of the food, was easy to read and used complimentary colors. They told how the plan works in simple steps and even gave a sample day’s menu with photos. The piece gate folded and as you opened it, you saw more photos with taglines of “Live Fresh, live healthy”.

Printing and Paper

There weren’t any special printing techniques used, the stock was heavy enough and arrived in good condition.

Presentation

Compared to the rest of the piece, the mail panel was pretty bland. They could have used more dramatic color and better taglines. They included social media icons on the mail panel side and in my opinion that was not the best place for them. Instead, they should have used a stronger tagline or call to action on this side of the piece.

Purpose

To increase sales. New clients can call an 800 number or go online to sign up for the service.

Offer and Call-to-Action

Freshdiet will provide 3 meals, 2 sides and 2 snacks per day. There are separate offers for a pre-designed menu or you can design your own menu. The call to action was pretty clear: the phone number and website were in a very large, easy to read font across the bottom of the mailer. Phone and website were also listed on the mail panel. I did like that they had a special promo code and web address so they could track the traffic from this piece.

Digital Technology Integration

They listed their social media icons. However, they could have gone a step further and said to find other deals or testimonials or content, go to the social media.

Personalization

None but I don’t think it was necessary.

Overall...

This piece caught my eye because of the timeliness. One thing not mentioned was how many calories are in each dish. For many people interested in a healthy lifestyle or using the service as a diet plan, knowing the calories and other nutritional facts is very important.
